A Message from the Executive Director
I am thrilled to have recently joined Friends of Strays as Executive Director. As a lifelong advocate for animal welfare and a rescuer of dozens of animals throughout my life, I couldn’t have imagined a better fit for myself professionally. I am honored to lead an organization that has a such strong reputation in Pinellas County for the care and adoption of homeless pets and for providing critical animal welfare education to our community.
In my short time as Executive Director, I have witnessed the compassion and care that our staff shows to all of the animals that have found their way into our shelter. Each and every Friends of Strays staff member is dedicated to providing a safe and secure space for our dogs and cats and giving them the love and affection they so desperately need and deserve until they find their forever homes. I am truly grateful to be part of this team.
I have also been struck by the passion and generosity of our supporters. We have amazing volunteers who give their time each and every week to help us with animal care, giving out food at the monthly Pet Food Pantry, working at community outreach events, and helping with adoptions. And we were blessed on Giving Tuesday with an outpouring of financial support. Our goal for this campaign was $2,000 and, thanks to you, we surpassed our goal raising $3,298. The funds raised on Giving Tuesday will go toward much needed physical improvements to the shelter. (See other articles inside for more details.)
I am looking forward to working with our staff, volunteers, and donors to enhance programming, continue to make physical improvements to the shelter, increase public outreach, and bring in additional financial resources over the coming months and years. My goal is to build on the wonderful things that the shelter is already doing so that we can increase our impact on the community at large, provide care for the homeless pet population of Pinellas County, and find loving forever homes for every animal that finds a temporary home at Friends of Strays.
